OF THE LESOTHO ELECTRICITY CORPORATION – ANNOUNCEMENT OF BID OPENING|
PRESS RELEASE For immediate Release Tuesday, 1st February 2005 1. Closing of bids submission for the restructuring of Lesotho Electricity Corporation (LEC) was 12 noon on 31 January 2005. By the bid deadline, bids had been received from the following companies (in alphabetical order): Eskom Enterprises NETGroup/Fieldstone Capital 2. Immediately following the bid deadline, the bids were opened in the Privatisation Unit Boardroom in the presence of Government of Lesotho (GoL) and bidders’ representatives. 3. This bid opening is the latest activity in the process of restructuring and divestiture of LEC. The Privatisation Scheme for LEC based on the Public Service Concession approach and the selection procedure was approved by Cabinet in February 2004. Following this, Expressions of Interest were invited, and a shortlist of 5 prospective bidders identified. In July 2004 the shortlisted firms were invited to submit bids. 4. Further to the opening of the bids, an evaluation process will take place in accordance with the procedures stipulated in the Privatisation Act and its Regulations. A Committee has been established for the purpose, and a Sales Advisory Group led by BearingPoint (formerly KPMG Consulting), with IPA Energy Consulting, lawyers Cameron McKenna and Edward, Nathan & Friedland, accountants PMB and Gemini PR Services will assist the Committee. 5.
